Sill Beam Repair- Phase I

The first phase of restoring the historic Manor House was to repair the badly deteriorated sill beams on the north and south sides of the Main House. Intermediate repairs had been made to the foundation over the years, but the giant cypress beams under the walls had many years of termite damage which had caused the walls to sag, doors to tilt and the floors to be spongy. Due to the post and beam construction of the house, the wall framing  and floor joists rested directly on the sill beams, making replacement difficult. The walls  and floors were temporarily supported with bracing, the old beams removed, and new pressure treated sill installed. The Friends of Chinsegut Hill secured a Small Matching Grant from the Florida Division of Historical Resources to start this stabilization of the building foundation in the summer of 2013.
